View full details
The Big Zip™ EVO Shutoff Valve is a new leak-proof valve made specifically for the Big Zip™ EVO Reservoir. The improved design offers a wider angle for faster water flow, an embossed water droplet icon to indicate when water flow is engaged (taking away any guesswork on whether or not water is in on or off mode), and a larger on/off lever for ease of use (even with gloves on). The result is a valve that offers faster water flow and a more intuitive on/off lever.

How do I use my Reservoir Cleaning Kit to clean my reservoir?

Our Reservoir Cleaning Kit comes with two brushes: one long, thin brush and one shorter, wider brush. These are used to scrub different parts of your hydration reservoir.

The long, skinny brush is made to clean your drink tube. Keeping a finger in the hoop at the end of the brush, you can use the brush on the opposite end to scrub the inside of your drink tube. Note: When detaching your drink tube to clean, it's easiest to access the interior of your drink tube through the end with the bite valve.

The shorter, wider brush is used for scrubbing the interior of your reservoir. Simply hold on to the obvious handle, and use the bristled end to scrub at any visible dirt or residue inside your reservoir.

How do I install my Bite Valve Cover?

First, remove your HyFLO™ Bite Valve from your shutoff valve.Next, insert the base of the Bite Valve Cover over the tube, and push it all the way down.Open the top of the Bite Valve Cover, and re-insert your HyFLO Bite Valve onto the shutoff valve with the base of the Bite Valve Cover between the bite valve and the shutoff valve.Last, close the top of the Bite Valve Cover. Voila!

How do I use my Big Zip™ EVO Filter Connector Kit?

The Big Zip™ EVO Connector Kit is a nifty accessory that allows you to filter directly from your GravityWorks™ into your Big Zip EVO without ever having to remove your reservoir from your pack.

To do so, you first need to remove your drink tube from your reservoir via the quick-disconnect. Then, plug the connection point on the connector kit's hose directly into the quick-disconnect point (you will hear a click). Next, attach the connector kit's hose to the base of your GravityWorks filter cartridge. Let gravity do the rest, as you're now on your way to clean, taste-free hydration.

Nice unit, but not very durable

"The shutoff valves don't last very long, I'm looking to replace valve#2 now ,but alot of outdoor stores don't offer the replacements any more, just a new unit "bladder n tube. doesn't look like there in stock, whats the warranty period like?"

— Paul (3/5)

Obsolete Valve, Breaks.

"Valve issue, plastic breaking from use. Came here to look for a replacement and now see it is a common problem. Bladder is great, Valve is terrible. Will look into an alternative valve system elsewhere potentially."

— Lake (1/5)

older design better

"I purchased similar systems for my two daughters. Which they only use a few times a year. The valve for older design from the big zip lp is still working after four years and the valve for the Big zip Evo which is billed as an improvement has failed in two seasons due to the weak plastic lever. The big zip is only an improvement if you make money selling replacement parts. I am very disappointed and will switch to a different system from now on."

It's good

"Fits. Works. Durable."

Perfect replacement

"My original valve cap broke this summer after 2 years and since I hike twice a week, a working hydration system is a must, new valve works better than the original one which as had to turn. Thanks for the speedy delivery!"

Disappointing Quality

"My valve broke after a few uses while I was on a backpacking trip this weekend. I figured it might be a fluke, so I was going to buy a replacement, but after reading reviews, it seems like it is a common product defect. I don't really want to spend 10 bucks plus shipping to replace something that will probably break again."

Defective valve

"REI replaced my drink tube kit after the first one failed pretty quickly due to the defective design of the valve. The new one lasted a little longer, but failed within a few months of frequent use. I had the same problem as other reviewers, where the valve gets really hard to turn and the plastic is too weak to handle the turning, so eventually the little plastic handle breaks off, and it is impossible at this point to open the valve without a huge effort. Given multiple user experiences it is clear that Platypus needs to redesign this valve. Suggestion to Platypus: Go back to the valve design that allowed you to rotate the valve, such that it was open when the two sides were aligned. I ended up scavenging the old valve off of an old hydration tube. The hydration reservoir, the 3L Big EVO zip is otherwise a great piece of gear. It's too bad that Platypus has not fixed this design flaw yet (I think it came out around 2022)."

Shutoff valves leak or break down

"I have two reservoirs and I am very unsatisfied with the valve system. On one, the shutoff valve was very tight and finally broke down. On the other, the valve leaks when it stays open (which did not happen with the first one). I have written twice to the support without getting any reply, so I guess that my next reservoir will be from another brand."

Works great

"Need to replace the old one and this one works as expected"
