Locking mechanism fails

"A heavy saw that doesn't work: the locking mechanism doesn't bloc and because of that the saw doesn't stay rigid. While working it flaps double like a scissors: the snow unlocks the locking mechanism. Roeland van Oss - IFMGA Mountain Guide"

Locking mechanism fails

"Locking mechanism gets jammed with snow and won't lock, very annoying when you are trying to build a wall. To top it off one of the screws holding the plastic at the back of the handle came unscrewed and got lost."

locking mechanism fails

"Saw cuts great at first..until snow builds up under locking mechanism. Then saw will collapse on your hand. Useless until design is fixed."

Lock Mechanism Failed On First Use

"The saw worked out great until ice started forming under the small metal strip that is the locking mechanism. 30 minutes or so into building a shelter the saw started becoming a problem. Once enough ice formed under the lock (which was very little, really) the lock completely failed! I had to use extreme caution on the push strokes to not have the saw fold up and ruin my brand new OR mitts. This made building a shelter inefficient which was a huge bummer, because I was really excited about my new fancy piece of gear. I feel like this is a total design flaw. I likely can't return it, I bought it at feathered friends over a month ago. If I decide to use it again, I'll drill a hole where the other lock hole lines up, and use a small carriage bolt, or something a little fancier to minimize friction when cutting. That being said... In my opinion, this thing should be recalled, because in other scenarios, people could get hurt."

efficient and ergonomic

"Recently went on a ski/ snowshoe tour in Sequoia. It was so fun, our friend brought the MSR basecamp snow saw. It was fast and efficient in penetrating the snow to make near perfect blocks to build our shelter. Great buy and perfect for the winter camping season"

awesome saw

"We've been looking for a compact saw to take into the Colorado back country and this one fits great into a pack."
