Awesome Tent with Two Flaws
"Overall, this really is a legit backpacking tent. It's very lightweight. I'd call it ultralight if two people are backpacking and they each carry part of the tent. It feels sturdy and well-built. I'm very impressed with this tent overall. This 3p tent fits two wide pads very easily and has plenty of room to spare. It would be tight with three people, and they'd have to use narrow pads. But it's a palace for two. I like that you can set it up without the rainfly. This is great for those beautiful nights on the trail. I also like the various inside pockets. The door zippers feel fine. The vestiblue zippers also feel fine, but the flaps get in the way, and sometimes you need to use two hands. Somewhat annoying. The two big cons for me are these: first, it's only 84 inches (2. 13m) long. And with the very slight slope, that feels more like 82 inches long. This means if you are taller than 5'11 or so on a 3- or 4-inch pad, your head is very close to the wall. Typically, this isn't a big deal for double-wall tents; if your feet or head brush the netting, no worries. However, on the Freelight, the portion of the tent by the head is not double-walled. If your head brushes against it when it's damp or rainy, you'll likely get some moisture in the tent. The shorter fly by the head saves weight, but that means your head can touch the outside exposed wall. That is my second "con. " Anyway, this is a legit and wonderful super-light tent. If you're under 6' or so, it should be fine. And if you don't mind the lack of a double-wall by the head, it'll be great. But if you're taller or want a true double wall to the ground, you'll be frustrated with this tent."
